I'm a self-taught photographer having learned by trial and error. The early years were about family and vacations and a guy at Ritz Camera would give me advice on shadow and light. I did take a six hour course about ten years ago and received pointers on composition along with basic camera techniques.

My photography has evolved although I still try to capture images as I see them and I never "arrange" a setting. I have a 35mm Canon EOS Rebel and I've even taken some decent shots with those one-time use cameras, but I now use the digital version of the Rebel and this has brought the photography to a new level. Digital has given the opportunity to crop and I often  adjust light and contrast because in the cropping, I am sometimes trying to see into the darker spaces.

Printing close, closer…
I've always loved old barns and the more dilapidated, the more I am intrigued. There is a sadness here; of times past and a way of life that has been lost to technology. When I began photographing these old buildings, I became fascinated by the textures and patterns in the wood and now that I can crop an image, there is sometimes more to see. I want the eye to look at the grain of the wood and notice how it has weathered. I want to see into the building and beyond. I wonder what it was like in days gone by.

I receive a similar feeling when photographing flowers. There's an intimacy with nature that catches me when I dare to look close. I want to capture these details, see into the darker places. There are images that I've not noticed with the naked eye and I want to know if that happens with everyone. Look close to the petals, the seeds, the tiny hairs on the stems. See into the space where the petal attaches to the middle. Again, I am fascinated by textures, patterns, and the color becomes so vibrant! It's almost like Mother Nature is ready to reveal a secret if you are willing to look close.

Cropping even closer…
Photographing birds is another favorite. This is more difficult because often I am taking the picture through a window. Still, I try to get closer to see details; the fluff on the feathers, the different patterns and colors. However, sometimes to see this, the larger picture blurs…

I have thousands of pictures. I never leave home without my camera and I almost always have it near me in case I see an interesting bird or critter come by the window. Now, with the computer, I am able to take my photography further with pictures and notecards which I offer for sale.

I want to share this glorious life with you and show you what I have seen and invite you to have your own interpretations.

Thousands of images are available for sale and the slide
show on our home page is just a sample.
